Building for our future!

Our facilities are full…in fact, animals, people and equipment are overflowing out the sides and temporary structures are needed just to provide some cover. This explosion of participation and enthusiasm means our aging infrastructure can no longer support our current youth programs, which are already limited to space and time constraints. This leaves few opportunities for expansion to other activities during the fair or other community uses such as shows, sales or educational exhibitions. Our building projects involve replacing existing building structures with newer, more modern structures that provide more space, keep animals and people healthy and have good access for fairgoers and exhibitors.

Plan B - Multiple Buildings

Commonly Asked Questions

How much will this project cost?

Complete estimates are still being collected and reviewed. Costs for one smaller building, built to replace two, are expected to be around $300,000. Currently, building costs are fluctuating significantly based on the cost of raw materials, which are more difficult to source. More specific estimates will be available and evaluated once a significant portion of the basic estimate has been raised.

When will it be done?

We are all eager to see this project start moving forward! We’d like to have funds in hand to start on one building after the 2021 fair and be ready for the 2022 fair. However, this is an ambitious project and much of our work depends upon generating sufficient financial support. Please contact us if you’d like to support our efforts to move this project forward quickly.

Will there be new bathrooms?

Yes! The bathrooms on the grounds do need significant updates. Updated bathrooms are expected to come with updates to other buildings made on the grounds, and are a part of other efforts to improve the Fairgrounds.

Which animals will be housed in the new facility?

Our goal with all building replacements is to have flexible animal housing so that any species could be housed in any building based on the space needs, type of exhibition, and other factors. In addition to allowing more efficient use of the buildings, this will also provide flexibility for the future as different animal species numbers grow or wane.

Will any barns be torn down?

Existing barns are in significant disrepair and will need to be torn down but will be replaced with new buildings. The precise order and timeline for this work will depend upon the availability of funds to replace the barns with new ones.

What’s the Plan?

After examining many plans, and re-evaluating building costs, we’ve shifted from a one-building approach to an approach that more closely mimics the current fairgrounds in design, and provides the ability to take smaller steps successfully.

The plan here is roughly reflective of the current plans, which involve replacing the:

1. Isaak Walton and Poultry buildings with one building

2. The current sheep/goat/swine barns with another larger structure.

Exact plans will depend upon availability of funding.

Will there be beef tie outs?

Yes! One of the main things people have commented on is our need for beef tie-outs. While they are not easily viewed on the plan, we expect to have beef tie-outs created on the grounds in the future.

Where will the rabbits and poultry be housed?

As noted above, all new facilities will be flexible use and smaller animals, such as poultry or rabbits will be housed in new buildings, or existing structures as appropriate for the space needs and according to availability of space.
